THE MIND-BODY PROBLEM:

PERSPECTIVES FROM THE EASTERN AND WESTERN

 

Co-organized by Department of Philosophy, Center for Life, Mind and Cognition, SJTU, Department of Philosophy, University of York in the UK, School of Philosophy, Beijing Normal University and The Journal of Dialectics of Nature, the international conference on “The Mind-Body Problem: Perspectives from the Eastern and Western” has been held with a great success on Oct. 26, 2015, in Room 100, School of Humanities, SJTU.

 

 

About twenty scholars from the UK, Germany, Italy and China have gathered together, to have a warm discuss on the mind-body problem. In the conference, the scholars talked about Literature and the Mind, the Relationship of Xing (Body) and Shen (Mind, Subtle Vital Force, Soul, Buddhata ), Pain and Its Identity, Kantian Arguments against the Naturalisation of the Mental, Merleau-Ponty's Conception of the Body, Omori Shūzō (大森庄藏) and His Wittgenstein-inspired Solution to the Mind-body Problem, etc.

 

 

The conference is one of the most important events during the Philosophy Month. Besides, it’s supported by the Key Program of National Social Science Foundation “New Development in European Philosophy of Life” (led by Prof. GAO Xuanyang).
